Storybooking craft

Hey all y’all book lovin’ people!!!!

So yesterday I took a day off from life and stayed home to blog, craft, and watch tv.. ok I studied too… I realized I hadn’t put any crafts in forever (literally) and I wanted to share my WIP craft wise!

Under the Sea cover page

I’ve been into what I call  Storybooking.  So while jamming out to my new Hunger Games sound track, I worked on my

new Under the Sea project.

Under the Sea is a kids story book I’m writing along with illustrating using a mini scrapbook kit! I get most my supplies from Hobby Lobby.

Its lots of fun, and pretty easy to do!

Here’s some supplies and tips:

. Mini Scrapbook (You can use a normal size one but I like the mini for a kids book.)

. Mini scrapbook paper! I like the feel of the soft pastels                                                        and pretty designs.

. Hot glue, and lots of it!!!

. Different types of ribbons to put as borders or to cut dresses                                                         out of.

. Colored pencils! Especially if you plan to illustrate yourself.

. Sparkly stuff!! (Glue, markers, stickers, ect.)

. Imagination needed!!!! ;D

Hope y’all enjoy and have fun making your own story!!!!!!!!

Evacuation by Jennifer Hartz

~EVACUATION by Jennifer Hartz expert~

Faith… it seems to be revolving around everything I do and it is a hard lesson to learn.  I have to have faith that I can save my brother.  I have to have faith that my friends scattered all over Meric will survive. I have to have faith that all of Shaw’s secrets are coming to an end.  I even have to have faith in my own abilities.

The evil tyrant Leticia has sent out her dark priest Neamiah to persuade the people of Meric that she is god.  The people must take her mark or die.  My greatest test of faith lies ahead… I have to prove to the people of Meric that Leticia’s claim to lordship is false and that the Creator is the real God.

My 2 cents…scratch that.. My dollar worth

I am a huge fan of anything Jennifer Hartz writes, and Evacuation went even higher than my expectations. After Book II’s wild cliff-hanger, I bought this book the minute it came out, and couldn’t put it down untill I had read it, and re-read it!

Now, I am completely in love with Shaw….and Drexon..and Brezkin. So, obviously

Shaw *sigh*

Jennifer has a talent with creating awesome characters I generally fall instantly in love with. Combine that with the awesome world of Meric that’s full of wonderful Lord of the Rings-type creatures and evil mind-controlling Queens, and you’ve found a place you could spend years in. Or at least I could…

Anyway, If you’ve read book I and II (and if you haven’t, go get them NOW!) you are going to gasp the whole time your reading, because the twists and turns in Evacuation are so crazy surprising. Also, if you’ve read the previous two, you know that there’s some pretty cool things that happen that sounds a lot like the story’s in the Bible! Yea, there’s those in Evacuation too and you’ll scratch your head and say “Wait a minute. That sounds just like….” It was an Amazing read, and I highly recommend reading this whole series, because it will be one of your favorites!

An action-packed, chalk-full-of romance, cool-creature filled read that keeps your eyes glued to the pages! Five stars and lots of love for this diamond of a read!

Oh and if you haven’t heard…. I’M GONNA BE IN BOOK 4!!!!! EEEEKKKKK!!!!

So go check out jenniferhartz.com if you wanna (1) Hear more about the “Become a part of the story” contest I won (2) Check out the Future Saviour series (3) Enter a swag book giveaway and see some awesome pics of Shaw!

Halflings by Heather Burch

halfligsDescription

After being inexplicably targeted by an evil intent on harming her at any cost, seventeen-year-old Nikki finds herself under the watchful guardianship of three mysterious young men who call themselves halflings. Sworn to defend her, misfits Mace, Raven, and Vine battle to keep Nikki safe while hiding their deepest secret—and the wings that come with. A growing attraction between Nikki and two of her protectors presents a whole other danger. While she risks a broken heart, Mace and Raven could lose everything, including their souls. As the mysteries behind the boys’ powers, as well as her role in a scientist’s dark plan, unfold, Nikki is faced with choices that will affect the future of an entire race of heavenly beings, as well as the precarious equilibrium of the earthly world.

My Review

5 stars, ages 13 and up

If I used one word to sum up Halflings by Heather Burch it would be…Amazing. Awesome…Maybe Magnanimous (yea, that’s my new word).

These amazing halfling boys sucked me into a story so intense I could barely blink. I became part of Nikki’s journey, got majorly ticked at Raven, and fell head over heals for Mace and Vine. For a day I was totally useless to anyone not in Burch’s book. I got the book bite bad for Halflings! It left me wanting way more of  Nikki and the Lost Boys story; I get the (good) jitters just thinking about book 2!

I so highly recommend this book that I need wings..hehe get it? ;)

Texan promise that you won’t regret buying Halflings by Heather Burch!

First Date

Let’s face it, there’s a definite lack of humorous YA Christian fiction. As in realistic teen fiction for us Jesus lovin’ girls, stuff we can totally relate to and be all LOL about. Instantly I think Jenny B. Jones, gotta love her writing, Kristin Billerbeck, K. Dawn Byrd, or Cindy Martinusen Coloma. Alas, a writer can only write so fast, and a reader can only read so slow! But as I was casually browsing the aisles of Book-A-Million (LOVE that place, coffee and books all in one store!) I saw a new cover to YA fiction!

The last thing Addy Davidson wants is to be on a reality TV show where the prize is a prom date with the President’s son. She’s focused on her schoolwork so she can get a scholarship to an Ivy League college, uncomfortable in the spotlight, never been on a date, and didn’t even audition for it.

But she got selected anyway.

So she does her best to get eliminated on the very first show. Right before she realizes that the President’s son is possibly the most attractive guy she has ever seen in person, surprisingly nice, and seemingly unimpressed by the 99 other girls who are throwing themselves at him.

Addy’s totally out of her comfort zone but that may be right where God can show her all that she was meant to be.

~MY ZIPPITY REVIEW~

First Date by Krista McGee was awesome! Funny, cute, relatable, plus a dreamy presidents son, and a new-don’t-wannabe reality tv star! All the components for a great YA novel…then add Jesus and you’ve got one heck of a good YA Christian fiction! Addy was real and lovable. She wants good grades, a good college, and a good book..Yep sounds scary familiar..

But that’s not all she gets! A whirlwind journey through reality tv, and a great lesson on loving your enemies (despite how stunningly beautiful and maliciously cruel they may be)! Addy’s story is a modern-day Esther story, and I particularly loved it!

So, watch out America (and Canada, Africa, Australia, ect..) for Krista McGee and her charmingly hilarious books!

I’m gonna strive to meet more bloggers and readers, and have lots of fun with it. I also hope to move to Blogger this year and get a new graphic layout, but that might take a bit long!

I hope y’all have a blessed year! And don’t forget…eh, I forgot… ;)

THANK YOU, JESUS, FOR ANOTHER YEAR!!!!!

Is there a shift coming to Christian Fiction? Jennifer Hartz joins us for a heart to heart!

Little late, I know! But as a belated Christmas present to you all, here’s a guest post from one of my favorite authors, one I consider a blessing to not only have the honor of being a huge fan, but the honor to consider this amazing woman a friend! JENNIFER HARTZ!!!!!! Lets have a moment of silence for the books we love..and the people who wrote them! Hope you all enjoy this great article as much I did! Because it is pretty awesome..and oh so true!

Also at the end of the article is some noteworthy news about a giveaway ;)

Is There a Shift Coming to Christian Fiction?
Quick, list all of the Speculative Christian novels you can think of… Chances are you came up with the same three or four that everyone would.  Speculative Fiction is a majorly overlooked genre under the Inspirational umbrella.  Let’s examine the “big two”: The Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia.  Undoubtedly, both of these series are works of genius.  In fact, The Lord of the Rings is personally my favorite epic; however I felt as if there was something missing. Romance.  There was a tiny bit in The Lord of the Rings between Aragorn and Arwen, but even that had to be embellished in the movie version.  And don’t be fooled by the movie version of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian; Susan and Caspian did not kiss in the book.
What else seems to be lacking in the Inspirational category?  Realistic Romance.  There are many great Christian Romance writers out there who create more realistic characters and situations that have people desperately struggling with sin and temptation.  Their characters might actually mess up and sin just like many of us in real life. These writers create characters with deep internal struggles between love, duty to God, duty to others, self satisfaction… the list goes on and on.  But, for whatever reason, these novels are not as popular as their less realistic counterparts.  Could someone please tell me why there are so many Christian Romances with Perfectly Pure Patricia on the cover decked out in her bonnet and long dress?  Luckily for those of us wearing blue jeans and a t-shirt, typing on our laptops, sipping coffee, and eating sushi in present-day  there seems to be a growing desire for realistic, modern day Inspirational Romances… especially for those of us who love the Speculative genre.
For some reason Speculative doesn’t have a strong foothold in the Inspirational genre.  There’s a stigma on anything supernatural when it comes to Christian Fiction.  Frankly, I don’t understand this mentality.  Have you read the Bible recently?  The coolest parts are where God does supernatural things, or He gives His people the ability to do supernatural things.  Red Sea parting, stopping the passage of the sun, bringing down the walls of Jericho, closing the mouths of lions, raising people from the dead, and countless other instances… all cool!
So what do you do if you want to read a Christian fiction novel that is speculative and has a heavy realistic romantic story line?  Well, if you’re me — and you’re crazy — you sit down and write one yourself.  That’s how Future Savior was born.  I took all of the elements I wanted to see in a novel: Christian inspired, high fantasy setting, people doing supernatural things, and an intricate realistic love story all rolled into one epic tale.

Unfortunately for me, I wrote a sub-genre of a sub-genre of a sub-genre, so basically I wrote myself a story that had very little chance of publication.  However, I believe that there are more people out there like me who would love to read this type of story.  I believe that there is a new generation of Christian readers that will welcome supernatural occurrences and realistic love stories.  Look at the growing popularity of Speculative in just the last decade or so.  When The Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia were first published, they were not very popular. Now they’re huge.
The Inspirational genre is starting to shift, it’s starting to change.  Speculative is become a highly desired genre and more realistic romantic relationships in Christian novels are being sought after.  I was lucky enough to stumble upon Desert Breeze Publishing. They are on the forefront of offering these genres a chance to shine.  My un-publishable series is being read by people searching for Speculative Christian Romances.  Something that is very hard to come by, but in my opinion on the rise.

~

WOW!!!!!!

I couldn’t agree more on all of these issues! Not just because I’m a HUGE fan of Spec. Christian romance…Okay your right that’s probably it. I only hope that authors such as Jennifer keep up their writing, or us Christian fantasy lovers will be in a fix! :P

Now for what you’ve been awaiting, fair reader! A Giveaway!
